How I Started Writing a Novel

I  think most of us have wanted to write a book at one time or another. I sure have. I remember trying to write stories when I was a kid. Most of them were really bad, but I enjoyed it anyway. I haven’t really written anything recently, but I saw the last Harry Potter movie recently and loved it! I hadn’t actually seen any of the movies before, and everything I knew about the series came from my friend, Amanda, who knows most everything there is to know about the series. Some of my friends invited me to see “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows” Part 2 this past weekend, so I decided to go on a whim.

To be honest, there’s a lot I didn’t understand about the story, but what I was able to put together from what I’d heard was fantastic. The movie really does show an epic struggle between good and evil. It really got me excited, and now I want to write a story. I was talking to my friend, Jenna, about writing my own story, but she’s convinced it’s difficult to become an author and I can’t do it. Writing doesn’t seem too hard to me. I have a lot of reasons to become an author too. First, it’s really exciting to write about some new place and world, and second, being an author would be awesome!

One of the guys I saw the movie with and I were talking about how much money JK Rowling made writing Harry Potter. After our conversation, I went home and read a report that JK Rowling made over $1,000,000,000 from the Harry Potter books alone. I think that’s amazing! The craziest part is she wrote it for kids, and I enjoyed it. I don’t really expect to write a novel on that scale, but I can at least write a book. Even if I don’t make a lot of money, just being a published author would be worth it.

This is a great picture from the HP poster,
and it's how I feel about my challenge to write a novel
After all that., I bet Jenna that I could write the story and be a published author in the next two years. She didn’t believe me, so I decided to write on this blog to show everyone how simple it is to write a story. I think the hardest part will be deciding what to write about. There are so many topics and things that would be awesome. I’m really into the whole magic thing right now tho. I’m going to watch the rest of the Harry Potter series as soon as I get a chance. Maybe it’ll help me come up with book ideas. I’ll keep posting here as I progress toward writing my novel, and I’ll eventually start posting chapters as I get those finished.
